Weekend happenings

On Friday I drove 9 hours to Iowa. In Illinois stopped at a Barnes & Noble for a break and bought a book on CD, A Thousand Splendid Suns. I liked it better than The Kite Runner and I may actually read the book on top of having listened to it. It's just such a good story. I love good stories that I can get lost in and cry with and get excited about. Especially if they have to do with a particular part of the world and are historically situated. I had no clue about anything in South America until I started reading Allende, or Afghanistan until I started reading fiction and memoirs. I want to go to Kabul now.

On Saturday I hung out at my house and waited for my mom, dad, and Tommy to get back. I sorted though my whole room and have a huge basket of giveaways now. I looked briefly though old journals and notebooks and my art book from high school. It's bittersweet to do things like that, examine your past. Especially if it's all condensed into one afternoon. I have poetry written EVERYWHERE. On covers, back pages, calenders, all sorts of random spots. Wherever I was and whatever I was feeling, I wrote it down.

On Sunday we drove to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to see my grandparents and cousins. Tomorrow really early we'll go back to Iowa till Friday, when I'll drive back to Upland.
