blog.math.stats

I am not a very good blogger, but I could be if I wanted to.

I started reading Stuff Christians Like and was literally crying tears of joy when I read the conversation between Kirk Cameron and Bono. I though things like, "Man this guy is really on to something/ he has lots of witty ideas and remarks/ I wish I could meet Kirk Cameron." And then I noticed that each of his posts has about 100 comments. Talk about encouragement. So maybe if people comment more I'd be more motivated. (Probably not though).

I think there's some mathematical equation to predict the number of comments you will get* (C), based on the average amount of time one invests per post in minutes (T), the average number of entries he or she produces per week (E), and the number of friends he or she has at the start of the blog and who consistently read (F). After a while you'll need to add in the strangers from the internet who fatefully stumble upon the blog (S). So basically, it would look like C=TE/(F+S) and if I put in my numbers:

C=20x2/(4+0)
C=10

So either the 4 people who read this blog each need to leave 2.5 comments or I need some strangers to start reading to make the quota.**

I just thought of this, too- I should probably have some indicator of quality of post (grammer, subject matter, capitalized words, periods.between.words), but I think I've reached the limit of my statistical analysis abilities.

OR maybe if I did something cool like travel to Jerusalem and then blog about it with pictures I'd get all kinds of comments from Zionists, Arabs, and Rebecca's mom :-)

*and if there's not I'm making it up right now
**and for this equation to work

You don't have to wait until your trip to Jerusalem for a comment from Rebecca's Mom!

I occasionally read your blog. I love to see your family pictures. I love that you have brothers, like Rebecca does! I totally enjoy your musings ... and poetry.

Of course, if you do post pictures and a blog about your visit to Jerusalem ... :)

I felt so bad about not leaving comments that I decided to figure this out. Love you and take care!
