I should preface everything by saying that I'm in a really nice house (nay, a villa) next to Disneyland Paris, surrounded by baguettes and croissants, and it's not really a pain to stay here indefinitely. I was making a list earlier of all the places I could be that are much worse (such as my archtravelnemisis, the Amsterdam airport). This whole experience for me is more humorous than anything.
But I do get that there are some real problems with this volcano stopping the world thing. Because if air travel stops the world kind of does stop. With about 16,000 flights canceled for today in Europe, more than 100,000 displaced travelers is kind of a big deal. And did you hear the last time this thing erupted it lasted over a year? And did you hear the president of Norway is stuck in Spain leading the country via iPad? Suddenly a ship seems like a viable form of transportation... :-)

I was sort of indifferent until I realized that a document that I need by next Friday is stuck in Frankfurt. Now I can see what a mess this could become.
